Physical, orthopedic and neurological tests can reveal the condition of your neck, spine, spinal nerves and discs. Your chiropractor will gently move your spine to locate muscle tightness and pain and to show how well each vertebrae moves. X-rays may be done to reveal any problems with your vertebrae. Based on these results, your chiropractic physician will recommend a treatment program to help realign your vertebrae, relieve irritation on your spinal nerves, and reduce pain. If needed, your chiropractor will also consult with or refer you to other medical specialists. The Agency for Health Care Policy and Research recommends treating acute lower back pain with spinal manipulations in
the first 4 weeks of symptoms in conjunction with mild exercise.
